# Understanding Citations

The Sources tab shows how citation share is distributed between your brand, competitors, and third-party sources. It also helps you understand which source categories and page types influence AI-generated responses.

## Dashboard Filters

Use the filters at the top of the page to focus your analysis:

* **Date range:** Select the period you want to analyze.
* **Models:** Compare all AI models or select a specific platform.
* **Countries:** Focus on citations from selected countries.
* **Topics:** Analyze citations for specific prompt groups.
* **Personas:** See which sources are used for different audiences.
* **Active / All:** Include only active prompts or all available prompts. When **All** is activated, all prompts that are active and all archived prompts from the past will be included.

All sections update based on your selected filters.

## Domain Performance

Domain Performance shows how your brand’s sources share changes over time.

The chart displays your brand domain share. The summary compares citations across three groups:

* **Your Brand:** Citations from your own domain.
* **Competitors:** Citations from tracked competitor domains.
* **Third Party:** Citations from independent external domains.

The **Share** represents the percentage of all citations belonging to each group. **Total** shows the corresponding number of citations.

Use this section to understand whether AI models rely primarily on your own content, competitor websites, or third-party sources.

## Domain Categories & URL Types

Domain Categories groups third-party citations by the type of website they come from.

Categories can include:

* Review and rating platforms
* Forums and communities
* Social media
* News and media
* Wikis and reference websites
* Corporate and business websites
* E-commerce and marketplaces

This helps you understand which types of external sources influence answers in your market.

For example, a high share of review platforms may indicate that AI models rely strongly on comparison and customer-review content when answering your prompts.

URL Types groups individual citations by page type rather than by domain category.

Page types can include:

* Reviews
* Documentation
* Blog posts
* Forum threads
* Product pages
* Landing pages
* FAQs and help pages
* Social posts

This shows which content formats are most frequently cited and can help you identify opportunities for your own content strategy.

## Domains and URLs

The citation table provides a detailed view of all cited sources.

Switch between:

* **Domains:** View the performance of complete websites.
* **URLs:** View the individual pages cited by AI models.

Use the search field to find a specific domain or URL. The domain-type filter allows you to narrow the results by source category.

You can also filter the table by:

* **All:** Show every cited source.
* **You:** Show citations from your own domain.
* **Competitors:** Show citations from tracked competitor domains.
* **Third Party:** Show citations from independent external sources.

## Understanding the Citation Table

Each row provides additional information about a cited domain or URL:

* **Rank:** The source’s position based on citation performance.
* **Domain:** The website cited by the AI models.
* **Type:** Whether the source belongs to your brand, a competitor, or a third party.
* **Category:** The type of website or source.
* **Models:** The AI models that cited the source.
* **Citations:** The total number of detected citations.
* **Pages:** The number of individual pages cited from the domain.
* **Share:** The source’s percentage of all citations in the selected scope.

Expand a domain to inspect the individual pages associated with it.
